connections

I recently launched my own web page, edubabel.net, because I wanted to connect more with other teachers who work with high school alternative ed students. How timely that I should learn today about how to make a blog on this site! Awesome!

I started out to be a high school speech and drama teacher, but currently am in my 10th year working with students to help them finish their high school diploma. I am mostly doing social studies classes now, but try to blend in drama type experiences when I can. Last year we make videos...but I can't get them off the Hi8 tape into a digital format. (Any suggestions?)

Well, I'll write more later. For now, I'm off to the land of Blog!

Working Without a Net

My goals this year include integrating blogs into my classroom. I really like technology and get excited about the posibilities. Yet, despite the fact that most 16-19 year-olds are tech natives, I have experienced an anomaly. Some of my students hate computers. They seem to have very bad web karma, too. While the majority sucessfully get into my moodle, this handful just can't complete the process - even when I help them.

It's almost as though they sabotage their web assignments. Of course, I can't always figure out what they did - I wasn't looking at the moment their oddness happened.

This year I also want to do better at using audio and video files. It could be really fun!
